Halibut Fishing in Victoria

Halibut Fishing in VictoriaWhen we take guests halibut fishing in Victoria we take the time to explain why these amazing fish are sometimes hard to catch. It’s a scent fishery where the halibut comb the sea bed looking for things to eat. In order to be the most effective halibut fisherman we need to get our bait right down to the bottom. Yes we use weights as well but the sea conditions have to be such that we are not fighting the tide and the current in order to get the bait down. We put down an anchor, bait the rods and send the line down over 200 feet. There are many things our skilled guides do to make sure we maximize our chances. Halibut Fishing in Victoria is very productive if you choose your days wisely. When you call us to book your halibut adventure we’ll be honest and direct you to the best days. It is usually wise to book well in advance for halibut as there are only 6-10 days a month when we feel it is effective.  This is very different from Salmon fishing when the chances of a good catch are available everyday.

The three gentleman feature in this post did  their homework and choose Adam’s Fishing Charters for their halibut adventure! We were delighted to land them three decent sized fish. Halibut in the area can get as big as 200 pounds but these ones in the 20-40 pound range are more common.

Thanks Temple!

This happy angler made the decision to hire a fishing guide in Victoria BC and it paid off with this 20lb beauty. This late May Salmon gives you an idea of the quality fishery we have here. There are no shortage of fishing areas in the waters that surround BC’s Capital City. Adam’s Fishing Charters cover the area between Oak Bay and Sooke on a regular basis and our fishing guides are experts in understanding the migratory patterns of this wild salmon.

Your  guide is familiar with tides, current, ocean floor and have spots to fish regardless of what mother nature has up her sleeve.

We are on the water everyday and work hard to get our clients into fish. Once the salmon takes the bait it’s up to you reel it in. It took about 20 minutes to get this fish in the boat. Whether you are a seasoned fisher or a novice, our fishing guides are there to help as much or as little as you need. We talk you through the process, help you understand what the fish is doing and we’ll net the catch for you too – but the rest is up to you.

Salmon Fishing in Victoria BC

Salmon Fishing in Victoria BC

Salmon Fishing

Wild Pacific Salmon fishing in Victoria BC was on the agenda for these two anglers yesterday. The trip was great from beginning to end. We picked our guests up in Victoria’s Inner Harbour at 1pm for a 5 hour afternoon trip.

On this trip we welcomed 2 anglers that were touring Western Canada. Their trip includes an Alaskan Cruise, a visit to Banff National Park and many interesting experiences in between.  They couldn’t resist testing our waters and the results speak for themselves. Our guides have been fishing off Vancouver Island’s West Coast for over 20 years. All bait tackle and gear is provided and of course every trip is fully guided.

Victoria BC is a wonderful place to vacation. Many of our guest wish they allocated more time to explore Victoria, Vancouver Island and the surrounding waters.  Having lived in the area for well over 30 years we love to share our knowledge of the area. We encourage people to make the best of their time here. We pride ourselves in creating fishing memories that will last a lifetime. Whether you are an experienced angler or a first time fisher let Adam’s Fishing Charters provide you with a great day of salmon fishing in Victoria BC.

Salmon and Halibut

Salmon and Halibut

Deep Sea Fishing

Not that we are bragging -but what did you do today?

The girls proved they can fish! Our clients landed limits of salmon and halibut – all in one glorious day. It isn’t typical that we can fish for salmon and halibut in one half day trip but these lucky anglers pulled it off! The first order of business was to try our luck catching a halibut. For this we anchor in deep water and send the lines down to the bottom. The anticipation of the bite begins. It wasn’t too long before we got our first bite and then it’s over to the guest to reel reel reel! It is always so exciting to watch people reel in the fish, it is hard work and they have to work for it.

Once we had our limit of halibut, we headed to our favourite salmon fishing grounds to troll for this west coast treasure. Using downriggers and light tackle we put the lines down trolling at the just the right speed to attract the fish to the hook. All our boats are full equipped with the latest in electronics so we can be as efficient as possible.  After a few passes we hooked a beautiful pacific salmon. Success was ours – salmon and halibut all in one trip!

April 29 Salmon

The single action Islander reels can be a bit of a challenge – but not for these lefty’s.

Two nice fish for this father and son team. Both fish were in the high teens, low twenty’s,
