We caught these Springs while salmon fishing off of Victoria a few weeks ago. We would have posted it earlier but we have been super busy, which is great! Initially this trip was for the husband and the wife was keen to be there but not terribly interested in reeling in a fish. Justin took that as a challenge and slowly started to talk about how to play a fish while salmon fishing and what to expect when the bite comes on. It wasn’t long before the first of these fish hit and Justin instinctively gave the first fish to the wife! She was amazing, listened carefully to Justin’s instructions: keep the rod tip up, let the fish run – be patient. After a great battle, the angler won and the fish was in the net. The next fish struck and the husband played it like a pro. It’s not everyday you get a combination of great fishing and calm seas but this picture captured the glory of moment perfectly. We are salmon fishing from Oak Bay to Sooke. We have several great spots just outside the harbor mouth so travel time is almost always under 30 minutes, more typically it would be 15 to 20 minutes to get to the spot the guide thinks you’ll have the most luck on the given day. The waters we fish are protected from large ocean swell because of our proximity to the Olympic Peninsula – which by the way add a dramatic backdrop when you are salmon fishing off Victoria, BC.

Three generations
Truly a family friendly salmon fishing outfit, we love taking young people fishing and sharing our passion for this remarkable fish. Adam caught his first salmon in Oak Bay in 1978 on Thanksgiving Day with his father. They hopped in their lime green Glastron with a 35 horse Merc and headed for the flats. Using a polar bear buzz bomb they jigged his first salmon and a passion was born.
This past Sunday we were honoured to guide 3 generations from Quebec. Not all the anglers we take fishing are families, we caterer to couples, special occasions, friends, conference groups and tours but when three generations get together for a family friendly salmon fishing trip we are a great choice.
Temple guided this group into fish about 5 miles off the harbour mouth. Obviously as fishing guides we are much more technically savvy now than we were in 70’s but the beauty of deep sea fishing remains the same. You just don’t know how things are going to go. We use top of the line gear, we have radar, sonar, GPS and our guides are out there everyday. If there are fish to be caught we will find them.
Some of our enquiries about fishing ask about how we approach the family friendly salmon fishing experience we are proud to offer. The answer is simple your success is our success. If we can show your family what it is like to troll for fish, reel in fish, make the decision to keep the fish (or not) and then present it to your family for dinner – we are stoked. The cooking is up to you! Give us a call at 250-370-2326 or 250-727-5575 or send us an email.
When we take guests halibut fishing in Victoria we take the time to explain why these amazing fish are sometimes hard to catch. It’s a scent fishery where the halibut comb the sea bed looking for things to eat. In order to be the most effective halibut fisherman we need to get our bait right down to the bottom. Yes we use weights as well but the sea conditions have to be such that we are not fighting the tide and the current in order to get the bait down. We put down an anchor, bait the rods and send the line down over 200 feet. There are many things our skilled guides do to make sure we maximize our chances. Halibut Fishing in Victoria is very productive if you choose your days wisely. When you call us to book your halibut adventure we’ll be honest and direct you to the best days. It is usually wise to book well in advance for halibut as there are only 6-10 days a month when we feel it is effective. This is very different from Salmon fishing when the chances of a good catch are available everyday.
The three gentleman feature in this post did their homework and choose Adam’s Fishing Charters for their halibut adventure! We were delighted to land them three decent sized fish. Halibut in the area can get as big as 200 pounds but these ones in the 20-40 pound range are more common.

This happy angler made the decision to hire a fishing guide in Victoria BC and it paid off with this 20lb beauty. This late May Salmon gives you an idea of the quality fishery we have here. There are no shortage of fishing areas in the waters that surround BC’s Capital City. Adam’s Fishing Charters cover the area between Oak Bay and Sooke on a regular basis and our fishing guides are experts in understanding the migratory patterns of this wild salmon.
Your guide is familiar with tides, current, ocean floor and have spots to fish regardless of what mother nature has up her sleeve.
We are on the water everyday and work hard to get our clients into fish. Once the salmon takes the bait it’s up to you reel it in. It took about 20 minutes to get this fish in the boat. Whether you are a seasoned fisher or a novice, our fishing guides are there to help as much or as little as you need. We talk you through the process, help you understand what the fish is doing and we’ll net the catch for you too – but the rest is up to you.

Wild Pacific Salmon fishing in Victoria BC was on the agenda for these two anglers yesterday. The trip was great from beginning to end. We picked our guests up in Victoria’s Inner Harbour at 1pm for a 5 hour afternoon trip.
On this trip we welcomed 2 anglers that were touring Western Canada. Their trip includes an Alaskan Cruise, a visit to Banff National Park and many interesting experiences in between. They couldn’t resist testing our waters and the results speak for themselves. Our guides have been fishing off Vancouver Island’s West Coast for over 20 years. All bait tackle and gear is provided and of course every trip is fully guided.
